Every year hundreds, if not thousands, of people come home to find that is has flooded and the connections on their appliance is to blame! Often times people leave only for a couple hours and that is all the time needed to cause serious financial damage to their home. Just imagine if the same family had been gone for weeks or months!
Obviously the first step is stop anymore water from leaking into the home. After turning off the home’s water supply they will discover the source came from a small 3/4″ diameter spigot that feeds their washing machine. Why? Over the years the rubber gasket that is singed down between the hose fitting and the spigot is broken down and has deteriorated to the point of failure.
Do not let this happen! The basic rule of thumb is to replace these rubber gaskets every five years. This applies not only to your washing machine but also any other appliance that uses these same gaskets.
